Educational content; not medical advice

The content published on Calorie Tracker Lab — including app reviews, head-to-head comparisons, best-of rankings, migration guides, glossary entries, and methodology articles — is for educational and informational purposes only. It does not constitute, and is not a substitute for, individualized medical, nutritional, or psychological advice from a licensed clinician.

While our editorial team includes credentialed contributors (including a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist with a PhD in Public Health Nutrition), publication on this site does not establish a clinician–patient relationship. The information provided is general; your individual circumstances may differ in ways that change the appropriate recommendation. Do not rely on Calorie Tracker Lab content as the sole basis for any decision affecting your health.

Consult a clinician for individualized guidance

For individualized advice on calorie targets, macronutrient distribution, weight management, GLP-1 receptor agonist nutrition support, eating disorder treatment, or any clinical condition that affects nutrition, consult a licensed Registered Dietitian, physician, psychologist, or other qualified clinician familiar with your medical history.

If you are taking semaglutide, tirzepatide, or any other GLP-1 receptor agonist; managing diabetes; pregnant or lactating; recovering from an eating disorder; under 18; over 65; or living with a chronic condition that affects metabolism, calorie targets and macro distributions discussed in app-review content may not be appropriate for you. Consult your prescribing clinician before adopting any calorie or macro target you read about here.

App accuracy is not clinical accuracy

Our accuracy testing measures how closely a calorie tracking app's estimates match laboratory-derived ground truth on a set of reference meals. Even the most accurate app in our testing has measurable error. No consumer-grade calorie tracking app is accurate enough to substitute for clinical metabolic measurement (e.g., indirect calorimetry, doubly labeled water) where such precision is medically required.

Eating disorder safety

Calorie tracking is not a neutral activity. For some users it is a useful clinical tool. For others, especially those with a history of disordered eating, it can be actively harmful. If you are in active recovery from an eating disorder, or if calorie tracking is producing distress, please consult a licensed clinician before using any of the apps we review. Our eating disorder resources page lists national hotlines and warning signs.

If you are in crisis

If you are experiencing a mental health crisis or considering self-harm, please call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, US), call NEDA at 1-800-931-2237, or contact emergency services immediately.

Calorie Tracker Lab, its contributors, and its publisher disclaim liability for any adverse outcome arising from reliance on content published on this site.
