About Cormac Whitfield
Cormac Whitfield is the senior editor of Calorie Tracker Lab and the writer behind most of the lab’s flagship head-to-head comparisons. He owns the publication’s voice, which is plain-spoken, methodologically explicit, and deliberately allergic to the affiliate-blog rhetorical moves that dominate the category. If a Calorie Tracker Lab comparison reads like a Wirecutter article and not a SEO-bait listicle, Cormac is most of the reason.
He came to nutrition-app testing through a roundabout path. His first job out of Medill was at a consumer-electronics outlet, where he spent four years writing camera and laptop reviews. He then moved to a productivity-software publication and spent another four years writing about note-taking apps, calendar apps, password managers, and eventually fitness apps. Cormac was, by his own account, increasingly disillusioned with how the productivity-app category was covered in trade press: rankings moved with affiliate commission rates, “best of” articles were re-shuffled quarterly with no meaningful re-testing, and the reader who wanted to know whether to actually buy something walked away no better informed.
When Vincent Okonkwo recruited him in September 2025, Cormac’s interview question was a single line: “Will I ever have to write a list whose order is determined by anything other than the rubric?” The answer was no. He took the job that week.
Credentials in detail

Editorial focus
Cormac writes most of the lab’s head-to-head comparisons, the migration guides (“How to switch from MyFitnessPal to Cronometer in 2026”), and the pricing-analysis pieces. He senior-edits every comparison, best-of list, and migration guide before it reaches Vincent’s final sign-off. He owns the editorial voice and the publication’s relationship with reader feedback.
Conflicts of interest
Cormac has no financial relationships with calorie tracking app companies. He maintains no affiliate accounts. His income is derived solely from this publication. He has never received fees from any company whose product is reviewed here. Pre-Lab, at his prior outlets, he occasionally received review-unit hardware (cameras, laptops); he never received nor accepted compensation in exchange for a particular review angle, and he has no comparable relationships in the calorie-app category.
